BI Foreigners PH Stay Home, In April 2020, as the world grappled with the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries implemented strict measures to curb the spread of the virus. Among these measures, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in the Philippines issued a significant appeal to foreigners residing or visiting the country: “Stay Home.” This directive was part of a broader effort to enforce social distancing and minimize movement within communities, crucial steps to prevent further outbreaks.

The BI’s appeal underscores the Philippines’ commitment to public health and safety in a time of global crisis. By asking foreigners to stay at home, the BI aimed to protect not only the local population but also international visitors and residents from the risks associated with COVID-19. This measure was aligned with global efforts to limit social interactions, a key strategy in managing the spread of the virus.

For foreigners in the Philippines, the appeal meant adjusting to new norms of living and working. Many had to navigate the challenges of remote work, limited social interactions, and uncertainties about travel restrictions and their legal status in the country. The Philippine government, through the BI and other agencies, worked to provide guidance and support to the foreign community, ensuring that they had access to necessary information and resources during the lockdown period.

The BI’s message also highlighted the importance of solidarity and collective responsibility in overcoming the pandemic. It reminded everyone, regardless of nationality, that their actions could significantly impact the health and well-being of the community. By staying home, foreigners in the Philippines contributed to the national and global fight against COVID-19, demonstrating that cooperation and empathy across borders are vital in addressing a crisis of this magnitude.

In retrospect, the BI’s appeal to foreigners to stay at home during the critical early months of the pandemic was a necessary response to an extraordinary situation. It was a reminder of the interconnectedness of our world and the shared responsibility we all have in ensuring each other’s safety during times of crisis.

MANILA, Philippines—Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente appealed to aliens still in the Philippines to stay at home during the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). According to Morente, aliens who decided to remain in the Philippines are advised to follow the guidelines of the ECQ “as this is our best solution to buy time in the fight against Covid-19”. Morente added that they are discouraging aliens in the country from going out to apply for visa extensions. “We have eased immigration requirements for foreigners who remain in the Philippines during the ECQ,” said Morente. “Aliens anywhere in the Philippines whose visas will expire during the period, shall not be charged penalties as long as they file their applications within 30 days from the lifting of the ECQ,” he added. However, the BI clarified that applications filed after the lapse of thirty days from the lifting of the ECQ and aliens whose visas expired prior to the declaration of the ECQ will not be exempt from penalties. “We are issuing this reiteration as there are still some aliens proceeding to our offices to file for extensions despite the quarantine,” said Morente. “For everyone’s safety, please stay at home,” he stated
